Mission

The Justin Crawford Foundation is dedicated to empowering youth in academia and athletics. Inspired by the journey of MLB player Justin Crawford, the foundation provides resources and opportunities to individuals and institutions supporting youth athletics, as well as education initiatives aimed at empowering students with dyslexia and other unique learning differences.

Vision

The Justin Crawford Foundation aims to transform the lives of more than 100,000 children by supporting organizations and individuals dedicated to youth achievement both in and out of the classroom. Through our philanthropic initiatives, we strive to support and celebrate the unique abilities of individuals facing diverse challenges in life, education, and athletics. We seek strategic partnerships with organizations that instill youth with a strong work ethic and responsibility.

FACTS ABOUT DYSLEXIA

  • Dyslexia is the most common learning disability. Individuals with this medical condition have difficulty in the areas of language processing.

  • 1 in 5 people suffer from dyslexia.

  • About 70 to 85% of children who are placed in special education for learning disabilities are dyslexic.

  • Those with dyslexia use only the right side of the brain to process language, while non-dyslexics use three areas on the left side of the brain to process language.

  • Children have a 50% chance of having dyslexia if one parent has it. And a 100% chance if both parents have it.

  • Dyslexia ranges from mild to severe. Around 40% of people with dyslexia also have ADHD. And those with dyslexia use about 5 times more energy to complete mental tasks.

  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that 15% of the population has dyslexia.

Justin Crawford

Founder

Just 20 years old, Justin Crawford is one of the top prospects in baseball and a big piece of the future of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Justin, in 2023, was selected for the prestigious MLB Futures Game and named Most Valuable Player of the Florida State League. He is the only Minor League player in the past 15 years to hit .330 or better with at least 30 stolen bases and at least 30 extra-base hits at age 19 or younger.

MLB.com said that Justin “has the opportunity to be a plus center fielder for a long time. Evaluators who have seen Crawford as a pro describe his game on both sides of the ball as electric, and there’s excitement about the kind of five-tool potential [he] might be able to display as he physically matures.”

A product of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Justin (6-foot-4 and 195 pounds) was picked 17th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft as the Phillies’ first-round choice. As a senior at Bishop Gorman, Justin hit .503 with 52 RBI, 20 steals, and 60 runs scored in 42 games, earning Las Vegas Sun Male Athlete of the Year honors and a spot in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

In 16 pro games the summer after being drafted, Justin had 10 stolen bases and earned a promotion to Class A for the final week of the season.

Justin (whose father, Carl, played in the major leagues from 2002 to 2016) played 69 games for Class A Clearwater in 2023 before being moved up to Advanced-A Jersey Shore for his final 18 games.

With a .344 average, .399 on-base percentage, .877 OPS, and a league-high 40 stolen bases for Clearwater, Justin earned FSL MVP honors. MLB.com also named him the league’s top prospect.

Justin had another seven steals in 18 games for the South Atlantic League, and overall, he batted .332 for the season – best in all the minors – with 47 stolen bases. He was the first player in five years to hit at least .330 in full-season leagues at age 19 or younger.

With strong defensive skills in center field, an elite contact rate, and developing power, Justin’s ceiling is very high.

Off the field, Justin has made a steadfast commitment to make a lasting impact in the lives of others. Central to this mission is the Justin Crawford Foundation, a philanthropic initiative committed to empowering youth with dyslexia and celebrating the unique abilities of individuals who face diverse challenges in education and athletics.

As a champion for community empowerment, Justin actively participates in initiatives to raise awareness and funds for the foundation's causes, particularly supporting such organizations as the Boys & Girls Club of America and various youth programming. His involvement in these initiatives brings together athletes, entertainers, business leaders, and other community members to contribute to the foundation's initiatives.

In 2024, the foundation plans on launching fundraising initiatives to support various organizations, aligning with his commitment to inspiring and uplifting the youth.
